Iskandor Khayon V2.0 – Work In Progress

By | 04/28/2017

Some of you may remember my original Khayon from way back. I liked the version of the model but felt it lacked something, so he is now a Warpsmith. This left me with a Khayon sized hole in my collection. Step in Evil Craft to the rescue with a mini I have already reviewed. Finally I got a chance to get some paint on it and here we are:

There is a lot still to do, no doubt about it, but I wanted to block in some colours and get moving on him. Gold paint in a spray can is a wonder, saves so much time and effort. Although in this case the blue is will need a bit of clean up as the gold showed through in spots. There are a number of bone sections to do, on the chest and shoulder pad in particular.

I am still unsure what colour to do the trim on the cloth yet. My feeling was the main part should be blue to time back to his Thousand Sons origins. Of course I now notice I have missed black on the armour plate on his hip. Frak.

Quite happy with his book of bound demons so far though, all it needs is some highlights. Although I could have it bleeding or powering glowing through the eyes and mouth… hmmm.

Fans of the Cadian Special Ops don’t worry they are finished and are being delivered to their new owner this weekend. I wanted to save the final post on them until he got to see them in person.

Have a great weekend all!

Nice work. That thing is full of detail, which shows up very nicely picked out on the black.

If you can manage it, I’d do something with the eyes on the book. It blends in a bit with the gold, so that would pull it out some more and make it stand out. I think a bright green would work well against that gold.

Will do chief. All sound advice will be taken on board. Glowing eye book is a good idea.

The sculpt on that Evil Craft Sorcerer looks really solid. The details are nice and crisp.
I’ve found that the secret to painting gold without tears is to not paint it! For my Emperor’s Children I do the gold trim with Brass Scorpion. Then I highlight with a mix of Brass Scorpion and Mythril Silver, before finally edging with pure mythril. It looks very gold, but a bit more realistic than some, and applies really well.

Yeah I generally only tried to highlight gold with pure gold after I washed it all. In the next stage I will be trying the silver highlights.

Very cool! I really dig both the sculpt and the paint job – Good stuff, man! I might suggest a spot color for the power cables/gems/eyes, perhaps a red or green could help give it a bit more zing. Beyond that I really think he looks great!

Still a WiP so that can be incorporated going forward, thanks for the ideas.

That’s a very cool model, and he is looking good. The evil tome reminds me of an old textbook I once had…daemonology 101, or something similar…
I will have to remember the gold spray paint when I eventually start work on my custodes conversions.

Cheers Doug, bunch of work still to do but I am liking how he is coming together.
